Carrera concept bike at Taipei Cycle Show

Saw this concept bike at the show. I was just standing there looking at it doing nothing, you know, like a bike on a stand does. Suddenly this Italian gentleman says from behind my shoulder “you want to see the bike” I think wtf, I’m already looking at it, but I say “yea ok”. He looks at some shifty looking dude and says “show him the bike”.

The shifty looking bloke darts over to the bike and with a quick motion, the bloody bike is whizzing away with the cranks flying around at high revs and the back wheel is spinning – Giving out an extra 200watts of power, maybe more.

At that point I was speechless and just looked at it. Looked at it again and again. What ever was motoring it was completely concealed. The truth is a motor fitted inside the bottom bracket area of the bike, turning the cranks. Just looking at the bike you  wouldn’t know it was motorised. The controls are hidden buttons under the brake hoods and not a wire is shown to give it away. A cunning stunt if I ever saw one.

I’m up for having one for doing the shopping.
