Hosted at the newly built velodrome (nicknamed the Pringle) in the heart of London’s Olympic village, it’s the most sustainable and easily the best looking building in the park. The event is also part of the London Prepare Series.
After collecting my press accreditation, there is a short shuttle bus journey that takes you to the velodrome entrance. The moment you enter you can hear the riders powering around the 250m Siberian pine track. The crowd support for Team GB is just fantastic, the crowd roars so loud it gives you goosebumps and the smiles on the faces of the riders when they finish shows how much its appreciated.
I am here for last two days of the event which, covers the men’s and women’s Keirin, Omnium, Sprint, Team Pursuit and women’s Individual Pursuit. The highlight of today’s events had to be Laura Trott’s efforts in the final event of the day – the elimination race. She came very close, multiple times, to being eliminated at the sprint, but managed to hang on and sprint to victory. The crowds were going absolutely crazy for Laura and the atmosphere was fantastic. Very well done!
