The final day of the UCI Track World Cup concluded the Women’s Keirin, Omnium, the Men’s Team Pursuit and Men’s Sprint.
We arrived early to take advantage of the press tribunes overlooking the track and all of the teams preparing for the day. Over the past two days I have witnessed many riders from around the world, keeping their legs moving throughout the day, on rollers and turbo trainers scattered around the centre of the velodrome. Having only tried rollers a few months ago, I have complete admiration for the riders, spinning away on a track bike perfectly straight, with no hands on the bars, whilst watching the other riders on the track. I know cycling is their passion and career but its still quite impressive for the likes of myself.
Chris Hoy has to be the star of the past two days, he put in some great rides and won gold in the men’s Sprint and Keirin. The atmosphere in the velodrome whenever he was out on the track was electric. The very appropriately titled song, “The Boss” by the Godfather of Soul, James Brown was played every time he won a race.
