The Siva Cycle Atom is a generator that you install onto your bike to charge electronic things like a phone, lights, battery pack as you ride along. Seen that before? Well yeah perhaps but how about a device that does this without an expensive wheel build? A device that can be put on any of your bikes (if you have a few like us) and doesn’t rub your tyres?

The Atom uses magnetic rotors to capture the kinetic energy of your riding which either charges the device you’ve plugged into it or charges the lithium battery pack for use on a different device or later on. Perfect for charging loads of things especially on multi day adventures. For every ten Atoms sold one will be donated to someone in a developing country. The Atom costs $95.

If they reach the next level of funding the battery will be upgraded so it can charge faster and make it even more usable. There’s only 6 days left so i hope they can make it! Get involved.

Well I’ve recently missed BMX friday as I’ve been a bit busy. Finally I have some time and this video is grabbing my attention, Red Bull Performance Camp 2013 at Joyride 150 Bike Park. Starring; Drew Bezanson, Mike “Hucker” Clark, Daniel Dhers, Corey Bohan, Anthony Napolitan, Daniel Sandoval, Tyler Fernengel and Anthony Perrin. It’s got smooth lines, big tricks, foam pits and a trampoline. Rad as Radical Rick!

I love it when you hear about a new product, not expecting much and then being pleasantly surprised by it’s ingenuity. Plume is that. Already a fan of quick fix mudguard solutions the Plume is winning me over. Now they need to win you guys over so they can get this great idea off the ground via Kickstarter. It’s only 35 bucks to get one, which is a fair price, and in my humble opinion, a real elegant solution to the design problem. Go here to see more and join in.

Newly formed team: Madison Genesis recently gained a new sponsor, Lazer Helmets. We have been big fans of this team since we saw Ian Bibby winning the London IG Indoor Criterium on the Genesis Volare 953. Steve, Dan and myself are also huge fans of Genesis, each owning a Genesis bike, the team were always going to be hit with us. That and the team colours are awesome.

Tour d’Afrique 2013 is a monster of a race. 12,000 km from Cairo to Cape Town. A real test of human spirit and endurance. Over 50 athletes will compete to be first to the Atlantic ocean by riding over 70 miles a day.

Cinelli are taking part using their hand built Tour d’Afrique Hobo. It’s one tough bike, built from Columbus Life tubing the frame has laid back geometry for comfort on tough rocky terrain. That’s not to say it can’t pick up plenty of speed on something smoother! Tough enough to carry all the required kit too. If you’ve got an expedition planned over the next year the Hobo might be one for your shortlist as it will be available to buy in the near future.

I’ve had this film in my watch list for some time now. Titled Into the Trees it shows the Altura Trail which is 1600ft above Keswick. By Sam Needham & Robin Puplett it’s certainly made me want to get out from behind my desk and ride the trails.
