Giro d’Italia: Passo dello Stelvio

Ok here it comes, the big one, the massive Passo dello Stelvio. It’s legendary status, photogenic quality and height make it a symbol of the Giro. Introduced in 1953 by  Vincenzo Torriani, and the first rider to conquer it was Coppi (who beat Koblet to take the GC). Just getting to the Stelvio on Stage 20 will be a grueling ride, having to climb the Mortirolo first [but not the first climb of the stage] and it could be the decisive moment. I certainly think the sparks will fly on this stage – making for a possible nail biting TT for the last stage.
