Herne Hill Velodrome

That’s Dennis Talbot and Reg Harris sometime in the 1950s putting in some laps at Herne Hill Velodrome which today has been given the green light and funding to build a new 250m junior track and install lighting on the main velodrome. The lighting means elite riders can carry on training in winter so there’s no slacking off and the junior track will also be used by the charity Wheels for Wellbeing who use hand bikes, trikes and side-by-side bikes to help less able riders enjoy cycling. To think we nearly lost Herne Hill for good not long ago too. I wish more of our old outdoor velodromes had survived but they didn’t so it’s good to see money being spent on building and maintaining good cycling facilities.

  • Off for a long slow ride tomorrow. Will be going through some tunnels and need a light, decisions! Can't beat the little volt 300 on the right. The 1200 is brighter than a light house.
