Orp Smart Horn

We all know that to comply with the law in the UK a bell must be attached to the handlebars but it’s an area that hasn’t really seen much innovation. I guess it hasn’t really needed any but i think it does. Towns and cities are noisy. Really noisy. That little bell that comes fitted on new bikes struggles (you didn’t throw it away?!). Modern car interiors are quiet and it’s hard to hear a bell ringing over the morning radio and the sweet little bring bring is hard to hear by pedestrains with headphones on. This is an area where innovation is good. What about a bell that warns drivers you are in their blind spot while on the cycle path? A bell that mutes peoples music at pedestrain crossings? Ok, a bit far fetched. A bloomin great fog horn would be ideal really. A mini one you can fit on the bike would be perfect.

The Orp Smart Horn is something a bit different to your regular bike bell. It uses a piezo speaker to output a 96db warning horn or a cute tinkle tinkle depending on your needs. They’ve added in LED lights to make it a decent all in one safety device too. The loud horn is more like an angry squeak rather than a fog horn though if it works and that pedestrain doesn’t step out infront of someone it’s done the job.

Take a look at it on kickstarter, if you like the idea and design, get involved and back it!
