Stage Nine: Tour de France 2012

I always enjoy the time trials (TT), this year we have two Individual TT’s (ITT) and no team TT (TTT), which will really suit some GC riders. Fabian Cancellara (pictured) is one of the Tours ITT specialists [his prologue ride was amazing] and since the inception of the ITT in 1934, we have seen many ITT specialists. Some GC riders also work hard to get the ITT form ready for the Tour. Certainly in the last 30 years we have had GC riders who have often won the Tour on their ITT performance. This ITT is the first one and it will serve as a ITT form indicator to the final ITT which is the penultimate stage. It’s hard to express how hard a ITT is, just the rider against the clock, there are no tactics, just pure power and speed. So much time and money goes into making the rider and bike aerodynamic for the purpose of TT riding, it would be a very high figure if it could be worked out against time riding.
